One other highlight jumps out from tonight's game. Linebackers Joe Pawelek (15), Antonio Jones (9) and Antonio Johnson (6) each set new career highs for tackles tonight.

And this one's over, folks. Not what the Bears were hoping for, but not a worst-case scenario, either. Not every opponent the Bears will face this season will be ranked (though with the Big 12's strength, a good number will be). I think the top things the Bears will take away from this game was that Griffin certainly looked promising at quarterback. It will be interesting to see if he starts and/or gets this much playing time again next week, or if the Bears will continue to alternate QBs.

Wow -- backup running back CJ Washington in for Wake Forest, and he just broke out a 55-yard run to Baylor's 25 yard line on the first play following the interception. Even with their backup QB in, Wake Forest hasn't quit on this game, either.

Freeman's pass intercepted in the end zone with 1:54 to go.

Senior Kirby Freeman back in to start the drive for Baylor at QB. A nice job tonight by true freshman Robert Griffin in his Baylor debut. He will likely finish 11-of-19 for 125 yards, and he also leads the Bears with 29 yards rushing on 11 carries, including a touchdown. Griffin is the Bears' first true freshman QB to appear in a game since Davon Vinson in 2001.

Wake Forest runs it in for the score, but the Bears get a 44-yard kickoff return from the goalline by Jake LaMar. He needed to break probably one more tackle to take it all the way.

New quarterback in for Wake Forest after the punt recovery. Starter Riley Skinner finishes 27-of-36, 220 yards, 3 TDs. Nice game for the senior.

Well, the Bears forced the punt with 6:08 left, but while trying to let it roll, it bounced off Baylor's Dwain Crawford and was recovered by Wake Forest at Baylor's 10-yard line.

To illustrate just how different this offense is from what Baylor has run the last few seasons, before today, the Bears had not recorded a rushing TD in their season opener since 2005.

Wake Forest is just looking to run some clock here, though that's pretty much been their game all night anyway. Demon Deacons with the ball at the Baylor 47, 8:50 and counting to go.

With all the talk about Baylor's multiple dual threats, I'm a little surprised we haven't seen any real trick plays involving some combination of Freeman, Griffin and Szymanski all on the field at the same time. A little flea flicker or something. Maybe it's just too early -- not enough time to practice those.

The Bears have run the option somewhat effectively several times tonight. I love seeing that, because to me, the option is college football. Air raid was fun at times, too, but the option is just classic.

Punt returner Drew Bennett just got NAILED by a Wake Forest player on a fair catch; on replay, it looked like a helmet-to-helmet hit. Bennett may not even know where he is right now; that's the definition of getting your bell rung. After the personal foul penalty, Baylor will start with the ball at their own 33 with 11:32 left after forcing the punt.

Baylor is now 40% of the way to last year's total of 5 rushing TDs. The Bears only rushed for 2 TDs once last year (vs. Colorado). Baylor didn't record its first rushing TD last year until game four at Butler, and didn't get their first rushing TD by a running back until the 4th quarter of game five (at Texas A&M).

First and goal, Griffin stopped for no gain. Second and goal on the 1, offsides on the offense. Second and goal from the 6, touchdown, Bears! Griffin gets his first career touchdown, running it right up the middle.

Upon review, the play stands as called -- first and goal, Baylor.

We've got our first play under review of the season, on a pass from Griffin to Thomas White, who might have fumbled the ball at the 1-yard line. If the play stands, the Bears will have first and goal at the 1.

Nice pass from Griffin to fellow true freshman Kendall Wright for 21 yards puts the Bears inside the red zone on the first play of the 4th quarter. This one's not over yet!

End of the third quarter. Bears are really gonna need to turn it up here in the last 15 minutes if they hope to get back in this game. Unfortunately, with the game not as close as we'd hoped and the clock ticking towards 10 p.m., a lot of folks -- students and alums -- have started heading for the exit. I understand that some folks have to drive back to Dallas or Houston tonight, but I'm disappointed to see the Line down to only about a quarter of what they had at kickoff. And after all those nice things I wrote about them earlier...

Griffin is quick, though -- another nice scramble there for eight yards and a first down. On the night, he's got eight carries for a team-high 29 yards.

Robert Griffin is still in at quarterback, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Freeman back in the game at some point in the fourth quarter. Griffin is 7-of-12 for 65 yards.

I guess I'm better at guessing crowd size than I thought; tonight's official attendance was just announced at 30,633.

Scratch that -- Wake Forest just completed a wide-open, downfield pass for 43 yards and a touchdown, pushing the score to 34-6 with the extra point. I can definitely see why they're ranked 33rd nationally.

Wake Forest just keeps pushing the ball little by little. Their longest pass all night is for 15 yards, and their longest run is a nine yard scramble by the QB. But it's getting the job done, as they keep the clock rolling and just keep moving downfield.

Along those same lines, Baylor's new championship gold cheerleader outfits are really growing on me. Two-thirds of the group is in the new gold unis, while the other third is in dark green. Looks good when they're together and when they're scattered around the field; white just blends in a little too much.

I'm not sure what to make of Wake Forest's mascot -- kind of a scary-looking Uncle Sam in black and yellow. But he's here on the sidelines, along with a handful of WF cheerleaders.

Random trivia: Today's date (Aug. 28) is the earliest date Baylor has ever played a football game.

Skinner had all day in the pocket on that one, and finally found a receiver for the touchdown. Updating the Wake Forest QB's numbers: 22-of-28, 153 yards, 2 TDs.

Ouch -- this one hurts. Another fumble by the Bears, again on the exchange between Griffin and Finley. Not sure which one was supposed to hold onto the ball, but neither did, and Wake Forest has the ball at Baylor's 11 yard line.

As I mentioned earlier, students (particularly the Line) turned out very well tonight, and the alumni turnout is pretty good for a weeknight. Wake Forest didn't travel too many, though -- I'd guess under 1,000. My guess on actual (not paid) attendance is right around 30,000.

Baylor's defense has come incredibly close to taking down the quarterback several times, only for WF to escape the defender's grip or get the pass off -- and complete it -- as he falls. First down, Wake.

And Jay Finley gives the ball right back on a fumbled handoff. Wake Forest ball at their own 20.

Robert Griffin lost his helmet running the ball on the first play after the turnover. Wake Forest players lost their helmet five times in the first half. This is getting to be like the maple bats in baseball. Faulty chin straps?

Nice touch by Baylor's gameday staff, shooting off green and gold fireworks as the Bears return to the field for the second half. Baylor will kick to begin the second half.

One of Baylor's live mascot bears was here (not sure which one) for the first half; they even had an ice bath for her, since the temperature at kickoff was a toasty 94 degrees.

Tonight's first halftime performance by the Baylor Golden Wave Band is pretty appropriate -- John Williams' Olympic theme, in honor of America once again leading all comers in total medal count. Of course, that's at least in part thanks to the work of former Baylor track stars like Jeremy Wariner and Reggie Witherspoon. Sic 'em, USA!

Wake takes a knee, and it's halftime here at Floyd Casey. The story of the first half is WF QB Riley Skinner, who is 18-for-24 for 129 yards and a TD. The Demon Deacons are also 5 of 9 on third down and 1 for 1 on fourth down, while the Bears are just 1 of 8 on third down and 1 of 2 on fourth.

Wake Forest calls a time out with the Bears at 4th and 8 on their own 28-yard line. The Bears will be punting away with 26 seconds left. A nice roll on the punt makes it a 58-yarder. It looked like Epperson got hit after the play, but no call was made.

42-yard field goal right down the middle for Wake Forest after a WF reciever dropped a pass in the end zone on third down.

Wake Forest moving quickly back down the field, getting to Baylor's 25 yard line with a little over a minute left in the half.

A quarterback keeper by Griffin; the freshman juked one defender down the side and picked up 22 yards.

One play later, Jacoby Jones ran it up the middle for 12 yards and Baylor's first touchdown of the year!! (Unfortunately, Ben Parks missed the extra point.)

Heck of a defensive play by Wake Forest CB Alphonso Smith, knocking away a touchdown catch from David Gettis in the end zone. The Bears lined up with three receivers bunched wide left, and the TE and Gettis on the right side. Gettis went deep in single coverage, and the CB only JUST got his hands on the pass from Griffin.

For the second time tonight, Baylor went for it on 4th down in WF territory. This time, the Bears picked up the first down on a nice second-effort, one-yard run by Jay Finley. 1st and 10 Baylor at the WF 34.

Fumble Wake Forest! Recovered by Dwain Crawford at the WF 44. The reciever had the ball at the sideline; he was stripped by two Baylor defenders, and the ball just spun on the sideline, allowing Crawford to dive on it.

On the back of Robert Griffin's jersey, it reads "GRIFFIN III." But the Baylor media guide says his father is Robert Griffin Sr. Not sure what's going on with that.

AMAZING catch by Jay Finley on a screen; he bobbled it initially, then held on and broke 3 tackles to pick up 26 yards, getting the Bears into WF territory for the first time tonight.

Powerful hit on the Wake Forest RB going up the middle by Joe Pawelek. That's three WF players tonight who have lost their helmet during a play.

And the sack by Jeremy Williams on a big third down play forces Wake Forest to punt for the first time tonight!

Punter Derek Epperson's punts have gotten better each time, going from 14 yards on his first try to 39 on his second and 47 on his third.

Freshman Robert Griffin is now in the game at quarterback, after Freeman went 2 for 7 for 15 yards (with that interception) in the first three series.

Wake Forest is threatening again as the first quarter ends, with first and goal on the Baylor 6-yard-line. WF QB Riley Skinner, the nation's leader in pass completion rate last year, is 12 for 13 for 83 yards and a touchdown in the first quarter. All short passes, but enough to get the job done so far. Need a big stand for the Bears here to start the second quarter.

Bears almost forced their first turnover of the season there, as the QB dropped the snap. Two Bears had a chance at the ball, but a WF lineman fell on the ball for a loss.

Tough interception there; Freeman's pass hit Jay Finley in the chest near what would have been a first down, and ricocheted right into the hands of the waiting defender.

First down Bears! 15-yard completion across the middle from Freeman to TE Justin Akers.

QB Kirby Freeman is back out there for the third series. Word here in the press box is that both he and Robert Griffin will get time tonight, and Griffin could still debut as early as the first quarter.

Nice drive by Wake Forest there for the score - 12 plays, 62 yards. Sort of looked like the receiver juggled the ball on the TD, and Wake's QB wasn't sure at first whether they had scored. But the judge on the right line emphatically called the score.

This year's Baylor Line is supposed to be the biggest in school history, with a class of over 3,000 students. They all seem to be here tonight, overflowing the usual seating area.

Took a shot downfield on 3rd and 8; just barely overthrew David Gettis down the right sideline. So, the Bears will be punting.

This year's home uniforms look really, really good. The classic gold helmet with the interlocking BU, with a white stripe down the middle and green stripes on either side of that. Green jersey, white pants. Really a classic look.

The Bears are looking to extend their all-time record against Wake Forest to 5-0 tonight, though the teams' last meeting was in the 1961 season opener. The biggest game in the series was also the first, when the Bears and Demon Deacons met in the 1949 Dixie Bowl. BU won, 20-7.

The Baylor Line is out in strong numbers tonight; they're lined up right now up the ramp waiting to run around the field, and they are packed in all the way up the ramp and almost out off the concourse. Nice turn out, Class of 2012!

A little breaking news for our first item of the day... Starting at quarterback for the Bears tonight will be senior Kirby Freeman. Freeman transferred to Baylor in January after graduating from Miami in December.
