Baylor women's golf 2012 signee Lauren Taylor was named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year on Thursday. Taylor became the youngest winner of the Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship, when she took home the title in June at the age of 16.

Taylor helped England win a silver medal at the European Girls Team Championships and was also a member of England's winning Ladies' Home Internationals team. The award is given to the outstanding young sportsperson aged 16 or under on Jan. 1, 2011. Previous winners include Tom Daley, Andy Murray, Wayne Rooney and Theo Walcott.

The Lady Bears open the spring season at the UCF Challenge, which will be held Feb. 12-14 in Sorrento, Fla.

Lady Bears Among Top 10 WG Storylines for 2011
2:47 P.M., SAT., DEC. 10, 2011

Golfweek.com writer Julie Williams posted her top 10 women's golf storylines for 2011 and listed the Baylor Lady Bears' stellar fall season at No. 6 on his list. Here's what Julie had to say:

Baylor starts fast under new head coach: The Bears drew heavily from the leadership of three seniors during the fall season, finishing sixth at their first start before going on to win the next two tournaments. It's also the first year in Waco, Texas, for new head coach Jay Goble, formerly an assistant at Florida, but the transition period seemed short. Already the team is looking forward to a postseason that could be one for the record book: Baylor never has won the Big 12 Championship, and the Bears have only one appearance in the NCAA Championship.

Adding to Julie's assessment, the Lady Bears finished either first or second in three of its four fall tournaments, led by freshman Hayley Davis, who finished second in three fall events. In addition, Baylor claimed two Big 12 Women's Golfers of the Month - Davis (September) and Jaclyn Jansen (October).
