Baylor men's golf head coach Greg Priest was one of three recipients of the 2011 Bobby Fox Coaching Award from Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday in Commerce, Texas. Priest, a 1993 (B.S.) and 1995 (M.S.) graduate (when the school was known as East Texas State, was a member of the East Texas State golf team and spent three seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Texas before taking over at Baylor in 2003.
Priest joined fellow Bobby Fox Award winners Homer B. Johnson and Greg Williams.
Baylor is currently ranked No. 24 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin ratings and No. 25 in the latest Golfstat head-to-head NCAA Division I standings.
Behind top-five finishes from freshman Hayley Davis (2nd) and senior Chelsey Cothran (t4th), Baylor shot a final-round-low 3-over 292 to win the Branch Law Firm / Dick McGuire Invitational last week at the University of New Mexico Championship Course. Its first fall tournament victory since 2005 earned Baylor "Team of the Week" honors from Golfweek.
Davis leads the Lady Bears with a 71.83 scoring average and -0.67 score vs. par through six rounds. The Wimborne, England, native has two second-place finishes to her credit, shooting a combined 4-under in two tournaments.
Baylor returns to New Mexico next week for the Price's "Give 'Em Five" Intercollegiate, which will be held Oct. 10-12 in Las Cruces.
