Baylor Owns Top 3 Big 12 Moments of 2011-12
12:15 P.M., FRI., JUNE 15, 2012
Twitter: @BaylorAthletics | Facebook: Baylor Athletics

The 2011-12 athletic year has certainly been the Year of the Bear. A Heisman Trophy winner, a 10-win season and an Alamo Bowl win, a 30-win season and an Elite Eight appearance by men's basketball, a 40-0 season and a women's basketball national title, a 49-win season and a Super Regional berth for baseball... The list goes on and on. Oh, and Baylor won an NCAA-record 129 games between football, men's basketball, women's basketball and baseball, surpassing the 123-win mark previously held by the 2002-03 Texas Longhorns.

All of this less than a year after Baylor was fighting for its conference life.

Now, Baylor's historic athletic season tops The Big 12 Report's Top 10 Moments of 2011-12. In fact, it owns the top three spots on the countdown. Big 12 Correspondent Wendell Barnhouse and Big 12 intern (and Baylor alum) Sean Doerre) break down the year's top moments:

10. Big 12 and SEC agree to new bowl deal (Champions Bowl)

9. Bob Bowlsby Hired as Big 12 Commissioner

8. TCU and WVU Join the Big 12 Conference

7. Oklahoma State wins Big 12 title and Fiesta Bowl

6. Near Champions: Kansas MBB and Oklahoma SB in title games

5. Texas MG wins National Title

4. Oklahoma State WBB overcomes loss of head coach Kurt Budke and assistant coach Miranda Serna to win WNIT

3. Baylor Athletics: "Year of the Bear"

2. RG3 wins the Heisman Trophy

1. Baylor WBB

2011-12 might have been the Year of the Bear, but here's to this beginning only the beginning of the Decade of the Bear.
