RG3, Weeden Picked as O'Brien Marquee Match-up 2:06 P.M., WED., OCT. 26, 2011
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award has picked this weekend's Baylor vs. Oklahoma State game as its Marquee Match-up for week nine. The game will highlight two of the 16 semifinalists for the award in Baylor's Robert Griffin III and Oklahoma State's Brandon Weeden.
Facebook fans of the O'Brien Award selected RG3 vs. Weeden over another matchup of semifinalists in Stanford (Andrew Luck) at USC (Matt Barkley).
The field of 16 semifinalists will be narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 21, and the winner will be announced as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards, which airs Dec. 8 on ESPN. The O'Brien Award Fan Vote counts toward 5 percent of the final totals, and fans can vote once a day at www.voteobrien.org.
RG3 is currently in seventh place in the fan vote with 1,174 votes, less than 100 behind Weeden in sixth.

Bears in the NFL: Week 7 12:12 P.M., TUE., OCT. 25, 2011
Behind the play of QB Tim Tebow, second-year C J.D. Walton and the Denver Broncos erased a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Miami Dolphins - on the road - in overtime. Rookie DT Phil Taylor made his six consecutive start for the Cleveland Browns, but did not record a tackle.
St. Louis Rams RT Jason Smith suffered was has been termed a strained neck late in the first quarter of Sunday's 34-7 loss in Dallas. Smooth flew back with the team, but could be out for a few weeks, depending on the results of tests later this week. It was a very scary moment on Sunday, but we are thankful that Jason escaped serious injury and is ok.
PK Matt Bryant is still perfect through seven games, going 3-of-3 on his FG attempts in Atlanta's 23-16 road win at Detroit.

Robert Griffin III was named the first-team quarterback on SI.com's Midseason All-American team on Thursday, making him a consensus Midseason All-American with four such honors.
In addition to the Sports Illustrated honor, RG3 has been named Midseason Offensive Player of the Year by Sporting News and Yahoo!/Rivals. He also earned first-team Midseason All-American honors from Sporting News, CBSSports.com and SI.com, as well as second-team honors from Phil Steele.

Big 12 Student-Athlete Spotlight: Nicolas Jean-Baptiste 11:30 A.M., THU., OCT. 20, 2011

NOTE: Below is a feature piece on senior nose-tackle Nicolas Jean-Baptiste that was run on Big12Sports.com as part of their student-athlete spotlight.
On September 2, 2011, senior nose-tackle Nicolas Jean-Baptiste walked through the tunnel and onto the turf of Floyd Casey Stadium to the warm welcome of a deafening crowd. The fans were ready to watch the Bears upset the highly-touted TCU Horned Frogs.
"Walking out there was the greatest experience in football that I have had yet," Jean-Baptiste said. "It made you realize just how big the game was."
It was in that special moment that Jean-Baptiste could reminisce about the long and constant self-motivation it took for him to be where he is today.
After earning All-District honors on the offensive and defensive line in his senior year at Strake Jesuit College Prep in Stafford, Texas, Jean-Baptiste decided to walk-on to the Baylor football team.
Upon arrival at Baylor, he found out that getting to the top of the depth chart was going to take more than just hard work. To hone his skills and technique, Jean-Baptiste redshirted during his freshman campaign.
"It was really tough, but I knew that I had to be patient," Jean-Baptiste said. "I had to take full advantage whenever I had the opportunity to take the field."

Baylor/A&M: Pony Express Award Game of the Week 3:26 P.M., WED., OCT. 12, 2011
Saturday's 108th installment of the "Battle of the Brazos" between No. 20 Baylor and No. 21 Texas A&M is the Pony Express Award Game of the Week. Here's what the Pony Express Award had to say about the Baylor/A&M clash this weekend:
"It's been a long time since Baylor was ranked higher than Texas A&M in the polls when these two teams match up, but the Bears have jumped out to a quick start in 2011. However, this game vs. the Aggies marks a huge test for Baylor, which hasn't won at Texas A&M since 1984. Led by QB Robert Griffin III, the Bears currently rank third in the nation in total offense, averaging 562.8 yards and 47.6 points per game. Griffin III already has 21 TDs this season with impressive states across the board..."
The Pony Express Award, the creation of SMU's legendary Pony Express backfield of Craig James and Eric Dickerson, will look at two- and three-player tandems from across the nation and honor the combination whose work ethic, desire, leadership and playmaking ability best fuel their team.
