BEARS IN THE NFL SET FOR REGULAR SEASON
3:15 P.M., WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2013
SOCIAL MEDIA: @BUFootball, @BaylorAthletics, Baylor Athletics on Facebook

Ten former Baylor Bears made NFL rosters this season. Here is an update on how they are doing headed into week 1.

Matt Bryant, the Atlanta Falcons kicker, made both of the field goals he attempted this preseason, but he was out the last two games of the preseason with an injured back. He is expected to be back in action this week for the Falcons' opening game in New Orleans.

Josh Gordon, wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, caught 9 passes for 200 yards this preseason. He averaged 22.2 yards a reception, and his longest was a 45-yard reception. He is looking to be the Browns' top receiver when he returns from his suspension week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Robert Griffin III was quite possibly the most talked about player this preseason, and he didn't even take a snap. After tearing his ACL in the Washington Redskins' playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks, the biggest story of the off season and now the preseason has been RGIII's recovery. Earlier this week Washington head coach, Mike Shanahan, announced that Griffin will start in the Monday night season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Willie Jefferson, linebacker for the Houston Texans, had 5 tackles and a sack this preseason. He has made the final roster for the Texans. Willie's first game this season will be Monday night against the San Diego Chargers.

Phil Taylor had 4 tackles and 3 assists this preseason. He also forced a fumble and deflected a pass. Taylor is going to be ready for Cleveland's season opener against the Miami Dolphins Sunday.

JD Walton is still recovering from an ankle surgery, but the Denver Broncos hope to have him back between week 6 and week 9.

Jon Weeks played in all four games this preseason. Weeks will be the Houston Texans' long snapper this season. The Texans will open their season against the Chargers Monday night.

Though Terrance Williams missed the first 2 preseason games with a concussion, he was still able to see a little action this preseason. Williams caught two passes for 16 yards. His performances in training camp as well as in the preseason have earned him the number three spot in Dallas. Williams will be playing Sunday when the Dallas Cowboys play the New York Giants.

Kendall Wright caught 4 passes for 44 yards this preseason. He will see some action on Sunday when the Tennessee Titans play at Pittsburgh.

Danny Watkins was signed by the Miami Tuesday, and will be on the Dolphins roster for week one against the Browns.

BEARS IN THE NFL PRESEASON UPDATE: WEEK 1
4:59 P.M., MONDAY, AUGUST 12, 2013
SOCIAL MEDIA: @BUFootball, @BaylorAthletics, Baylor Athletics on Facebook

NFL Preseason week one is in the books, and several former Bears among the 17 Baylor alums on NFL rosters are making their presence felt.

Wide receiver David Gettis of the Carolina Panthers made the biggest impact, looking like the promising rookie receiver he was in 2010 in a 24-17 victory over the Chicago Bears. Gettis recorded three catches for 56 yards (long of 19), both team highs in the win. Gettis and the Panthers will be back in action Thursday (Aug. 15) at 6:30 p.m. CT against Philadelphia.

Chance Casey, and undrafted free agent cornerback for the Oakland Raiders, has been turning heads in training camp, and registered two tackles in his debut, a 19-17 win over the Dallas Cowboys. A Raiders blog described Casey as "the standout from the third and fourth string". Casey's Raiders next take the field Friday (Aug. 16) at 7 p.m. CT vs. New Orleans.

Cleveland defensive tackle Phil Taylor recorded a tackle and a forced fumble in the Browns' 27-19 victory over the St. Louis Rams. Wide receiver Josh Gordon added two catches for 25 yards (long of 21) in the win. Taylor, Gordon and the Browns will take on Detroit Thursday (Aug. 15) at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Atlanta kicker Matt Bryant was his usual self, connecting on a 37-yard field goal on his only attempt in the Falcons preseason opener against Cincinnati. Bryant and the Falcons will return to action Thursday (Aug. 15) at 6:30 p.m. CT at Baltimore.

In his NFL debut, wide receiver Lanear Sampson had two catches for 9 yards for the Indianapolis Colts in their preseason opener against Buffalo. Sampson's Colts will face the N.Y. Giants Sunday (Aug. 18) at 6 p.m. CT on FOX.

Tracy Robertson, a defensive lineman for Miami, had one tackle in his Dolphins debut, a 27-3 win over Jacksonville. MiamiDolphins.com detailed on Robertson's road to camp, which started when he attended the team's June minicamp on a tryout basis. Robertson and the Dolphins hit the field again Saturday (Aug. 17) at 7 p.m. CT at Houston.

Offensive guard Danny Watkins is entering his third season with the Philadelphia Eagles. CSNPhilly.com talked with Watkins about moving forward under the new Eagles coaching staff. Watkins and Philadelphia host Carolina Thursday (Aug. 15) at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Wide receiver Kendall Wright has been impressing at Tennessee Titans camp thus far. Wright did not record any stats in the Titans' preseason opener, but will get another shot to showcase his skills Saturday (Aug. 17) at 6 p.m. CT at Cincinnati.

Running back Terrance Ganaway was a surprise scratch from Thursday's preseason opener against Cleveland. The Rams' next preseason game is Saturday (Aug. 17) at 7 p.m. CT at home against Green Bay.

Wide receiver Terrance Williams missed Dallas' first two preseason games with a concussion, but returned to practice late Sunday afternoon and is expected to play in the Cowboys' preseason game Saturday (Aug. 17) at 3:30 p.m. CT against the Arizona Cardinals on the NFL Network.

Robert Griffin III missed Washington's preseason opener, but is set to return to full-team work Tuesday for the Redskins. Griffin stated that "There's no doubt I'm playing Week 1."

Former Baylor linebacker Elliot Coffey signed with the Houston Texans over the weekend, and could see action as the Texans face Miami Saturday (Aug. 17) at 7 p.m. CT.

More former Bears to look for this preseason are Philip Blake (OL, Denver), Jason Smith (OL, New Orleans), and Jon Weeks (LS, Houston). J.D. Walton (OL, Denver) is on the Broncos' PUP list for the preseason, and could be out until October.

Stay tuned to BaylorBears.com for continued updates on Bears in the NFL.
