Waco, Texas -
Baylor is installing ProStar videoplus display systems by Daktronics in four of its athletic facilities prior to the 2002-2003 athletic year, Baylor Athletic Director Tom Stanton announced Friday. Baylor is the first university to install Daktronics video boards in four different venues at the same time. The six-month installation project will begin this summer.
The new video boards, made possible in part due to a partnership between Baylor, Dr Pepper, Reliant Energy and SBC Southwestern Bell, will be installed in football's Floyd Casey Stadium, basketball's and volleyball's Ferrell Center, baseball's Baylor Ballpark and softball's Getterman Stadium beginning this summer.
In addition to a new 23-by-31 foot LED video screen going in the south end of Floyd Casey Stadium, Baylor football venue will also have a new sound system installed above the scoreboard.
The Ferrell Center will have two, 8-by-10 foot screens as part of new 16-by-50 foot scoreboards which will replace the former center-hung display. The new scoreboards will hang above both sidecourts. Additional scoreboards will be place in the corner of the arena to display miscellaneous stats such as rebounds and assists.
The Baylor Ballpark will add a new 13-by-16 foot video display, while the Getterman Stadium has a 10-by-13 foot video board as part of a new 13-by-41 foot scoreboard.
"We're excited about the added gameday entertainment value this multi-million dollar project will give our fans at these facilities," Stanton said. "We're also pleased to have the opportunity to expand our long-time relationship with Dr Pepper and enhance our ties with strong companies such as Reliant Energy and SBC Southwestern Bell. This is just another example of our commitment to giving Baylor players, coaches and fans the very best in intercollegiate athletics."
Daktronics, recognized worldwide as a leading designer and manufacturer of electronic displays, has installed the same technology colleges such as Oklahoma, Clemson, Washington State, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, LSU and Indiana, as well as professional sports venues used by the Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Browns.
"This boards will allow us to make the gameday experience more interactive," Associate Athletic Director for Marketing Darryl Lehnus said. "There has been a lot of research on our part that has determined that Daktronics produces the very best video boards on the market today. These will be first-class additions to our facilities.
"Reliant Energy and SBC Southwestern Bell have both made substantial, long-term commitments to Baylor that enables them to join Dr Pepper as 'anchor' partners in our corporate sponsorship program."
