WACO, Texas -
Assistant Athletics Director for Communications and Marketing Scott Stricklin has been named Assistant A.D./Media Relations at Kentucky, UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart announced Monday.
Stricklin has spent the last four years as the spokesperson for the Baylor athletics department and the primary contact for BU's football program. He also served as the men's basketball contact at Baylor during the 1999-2000 season.
"Baylor has been a special place for me and my family," Stricklin said. "In the four short years we've been in Waco, we've made friendships and memories to last a lifetime. I believe in the ideals that Baylor stands for, and know that Baylor athletics has great days ahead of it."
Stricklin will oversee the public relations efforts for the entire athletics department and serve as the primary contact for UK's nationally recognized men's basketball program.
"The opportunity to join the Kentucky athletics department and work closely with its outstanding men's basketball program was one I couldn't pass up," Stricklin said.
"We are very pleased to have Scott come on board to direct our public relations efforts," Barnhart said. "Scott is a veteran of this conference and has certainly been battle-tested in his career. He brings leadership experience from two different institutions and has bright ideas which will help us continue to market and promote UK athletics nationally."
Prior to his time in Waco, Stricklin spent one and one-half years overseeing the media relations efforts at Tulane. He served as the primary media contact for the Green Wave's 1998 undefeated football team which finished the season ranked seventh in The Associated Press poll. Stricklin also served as media coordinator for the 1999 NCAA Tournament First/Second Rounds at the Superdome in New Orleans.
The Jackson, Miss., native is no stranger to the Southeastern Conference after serving as the associate media relations director at Auburn from 1993-98. The primary baseball contact, Stricklin also was the secondary football contact and spent the 1993-94 season covering the Tigers' nationally ranked women's basketball team.
A 1992 graduate of Mississippi State, Stricklin spent four years as a student assistant for MSU Athletics, including three seasons as the media contact for the baseball program, which included a trip to the 1990 College World Series. Upon graduation, he was named assistant media relations director at his alma mater, working as the secondary contact for football for a year.
Stricklin, 33, is married to the former Anne Howell, the youngest daughter of 1997 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Bailey Howell. The couple have a two-year-old daughter, Abigail, and are expecting their second child this fall.
Stricklin replaces Brooks Downing, who left UK in June after eight years as the basketball contact to begin a sports marketing division for Louisville-based Ott Communications.
