WACO, Texas -
In an effort to draw the Waco community and Baylor fans alike together in spirit and pride, a group of interested citizens and community leaders are cooperating with the Baylor Athletic Department to organize the "Gold Rush" campaign for the 2001-2002 year.
Representatives from Baylor, the Waco Chamber of Commerce, the City of Waco and community volunteers have joined together to paint the town gold this fall, beginning with Baylor's first home football game on Sept. 8 at Floyd Casey Stadium.
The Gold Rush campaign's purpose is to encourage fans to wear gold to all Baylor athletic events. The community program extends this Gold Rush fever to the Central Texas community and beyond with the goal of including restaurants, hotels and other businesses.
T-shirts, collared shirts and flags are available at a discounted price in order to make them affordable for all who wish to participate. Local businesses are being asked to fly gold spirit flags with the large "BU", as well as to assist employees in wearing Gold Rush shirts beginning with Baylor's first home football game.
Gold Rush fever will then extend throughout the 2001-02 school year, as fans wear the gold shirts to home events in each of Baylor's 17 varsity sports.
Gold Rush t-shirts are now available for sale online at GoBaylorBears.com and in person at the Baylor Bookstore and T-Shirts Plus in Waco. A variety of sizes are available for the apparel. Click here to order.
Collared shirts and flags will be available online soon, and are currently for sale at the aforementioned locations.
