Student-Athletes Help Raise Money for Susan G. Komen Foundation
Nov. 11, 2004 WACO, Texas - Baylor student-athletes helped raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation Wednesday at Chili's, located on Valley Mills Drive, and Chili's Too, located on the Baylor University campus. Baylor team members from men's tennis, softball, baseball, soccer, and men's and women's basketball interacted with customers, took orders and served food to the tables. Men's basketball player Tim Bush said, "People never really think about causes like breast cancer until it hits home, so we are very excited to have the opportunity to support this cause." KCEN-TV Channel 6 reporters also participated in raising money for the foundation. The softball team serving at Chili's and Chili's Too wore pink t-shirts donated by Quala-T Imprints. Baylor men's tennis player Benjamin Becker said, "I always enjoy volunteering and doing something good for the community when I have the opportunity." The Baylor students, faculty, and Waco community enjoyed meeting the athletes and coaches. At Chili's on Valley Mills Drive, the baseball team greeted the customers and spoke with them as they waited to be seated. Assistant men's basketball coach Jerome Tang participated at Chili's Too and said, "I am very excited to support this cause in any way that I can. Every man has a woman in their life that they are close to." The athletes accepted donations from the customers. Chili's and Chili's Too donated five percent of their sales for the night to the foundation. For more information on community relations, please contact Liesl Rodenhaver at 710-3073. |
