WACO, Texas -
Baylor athletes participated in Food for Families Friday. Athletes from men's and women's tennis, baseball, and track and field made the event a success. The Food for Families goal was to collect enough food to stock Central Texas food pantries well into next year.
Baylor athletes worked from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the KWTX Channel 10 food drop site. Various duties included unloading trucks, sorting food and lifting packed boxes on crates for delivery.
Ellie Morrison, site director and Boy Scouts of America troop leader, was pleased with the athletes' help. "These guys have been lifting heavy things and making so much progress," she said.
Morrison said, "We appreciate Baylor's help each year. We could not do Food for Families without them."
The Army National Guard, KWTX, HEB and Boy Scouts of America sponsor Food for Families. The Salvation Army and Caritas will distribute the food to needy families across central Texas.
Food for Families, which began 14 years ago, has donated more than 7.6 million pounds of food to needy Central Texans.
Food for Families is just one of many programs athletes participate in to give
back to the Waco community.
