Johnson began his position as Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services on July 24th of 2017. He will be responsible for overseeing the academic progress of all student-athletes in the sport of football. Prior to joining the staff, Johnson was the Director of Academics for Football at the University of Arkansas. During his tenure in Fayetteville, the football team reached new heights in terms of team GPA and APR, including having the highest single-year and multi-year APR rate since the initial implementation of APR in the 2016-17 year. In addition, the football team led the SEC in academic honor roll selections in 2015 (40) and 2016 (39).
Prior to Arkansas, Johnson served as the Director of Academic Services at Jacksonville University where he was responsible for the academic and student development of all 460 student-athletes. While leading the academic support unit at Jacksonville University, Johnson also obtained his master’s in business administration from the Davis College of Business at Jacksonville University.
Johnson is originally from Gainesville, Florida and attended the University of Florida where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport management. Johnson and his wife Erica have 3 children (Elizabeth, Avery, and Carter).
