Jonathan Hill is in his third year working at Baylor as assistant director of athletics communications. He serves as the primary contact for softball, soccer, and equestrian, while also assisting with football and men’s and women’s basketball. He previously worked and traveled with the volleyball program, before transitioning to soccer.
Hill joined the staff at Baylor in September 2015, his first full-time job as an SID. Hill’s responsibilities include traveling with the softball and soccer teams, providing play-by-play coverage of all road events for Baylor fans through an online radio broadcast.
With equestrian, Hill also serves as the media coordinator and liaison for Baylor’s annual commitment to hosting the NCEA National Championship, and fills the same roles on years that BU rotates to host the Big 12 Championship.
In his three seasons, Hill has provided coverage for all four programs reaching pinnacles in their sports, including a program-first Elite 8 berth for soccer, a trip to the Women's College World Series with softball, and breaking a postseason drought with volleyball, now a perennial presence on the national stage.
He has helped publicize Big 12 titles for both soccer and equestrian, and secured a number of national, regional, and conference awards for Baylor's decorated and elite student-athletes, including All-America and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Prior to joining the staff at BU, Hill spent a year as a graduate assistant for the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) national headquarters in Waco, Texas, working for Hall of Fame coach and Baylor legend, Grant Teaff. Hill’s primary responsibilities were leading efforts to improve and streamline data analytics and mobile marketing related to the email newsletter, selecting and overhauling a mobile app platform for the AFCA Convention, and serving as the personal attendant for the AFCA President at convention.
Hill has spent most of his life around the Baylor athletic department, attending events with his father, Jerry Hill, the Baylor football beat writer and sportswriter for the Waco Tribune-Herald for 25 years before joining the Baylor athletics staff as the Director of Communications for the Bear Foundation in 2008.
Hill assisted his father with the Bear Foundation’s sport coverage, serving as the beat writer for both softball and soccer, while also travelling to and assisting with coverage at the Holiday, Fiesta, and Cotton bowl games for Baylor football.
Taking any opportunities to assist with the Baylor athletic communications office, Hill volunteered with BU’s hosting responsibilities for the NCAA women’s basketball first- and second-rounds, serving as the locker room steward and photography steward for three years.
After graduating from Bosqueville (Texas) High School, Hill obtained an associate degree from McLennan Community College in 2013, moving on to get a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in marketing at Tarleton State University-Waco through MCC’s University Center in 2014.
After finishing his undergraduate degree, Hill was accepted as a master’s candidate in the Master of Science in Education in Sport Management program at Baylor, working towards completion while also fulfilling his employment duties.
Hill is a member of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and an active member at UBC Waco.
A lifelong Waco, Texas, native, Hill is the son of Jerry Hill and Tammy Massirer, a Crawford, Texas, resident, retired first grade teacher at Bosqueville (Texas) Elementary, and breast cancer survivor. Hill’s older brother, Steven, and his wife, Hayley, live in Austin, Texas, where Steven serves as the Young Adults Pastor at Austin Ridge Bible Church.
