Marciel Whitehurst began his position as Student-Athlete Development Coordinator on July 31st of 2017. He will be responsible for directing community engagement initiatives for all student-athletes. Prior to joining the staff, Whitehurst served as the Student-Athlete Development Assistant at the University of Arkansas, assisting with career and personal development programming. While in Fayetteville, Whitehurst facilitated GeNext, curriculum designed to assist in the development and retention of first-generation student-athletes. In addition, more than 70% of student-athletes received career placement upon graduation, during the 2016-2017 academic year.
Prior to Arkansas, Whitehurst served as the Football Academic Affairs Assistant at LSU, where he was responsible for the academic and personal development of freshman football student-athletes. Whitehurst directed Students With A Gameplan (SWAG) program, designed to assist freshman football student-athletes transition to college and prepare for life after sport. Also, the football team earned the highest cumulative GPA in 10 years, during the fall of 2015.
Whitehurst is originally from San Antonio, TX and attended the University of the Incarnate Word where he graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Sport Management. Whitehurst received his Master’s degree in Sport Administration from Louisiana State University.
