Tips for the Selection Process for Yell Leaders
  • Tumbling skills should be mastered before the evaluation process begins. You will only have time to warm up your tumbling. Spotters will not be provided.
  • Your level of fitness is vital and will be included in the judging process. Men, we look for strength, power, and overall "fit" appearance. Women, we look for lean, powerful fit and portioned bodies.
  • Men just beginning this process should be in the gym working on increasing their muscular strength and endurance. Strength will make stunting easier and you a more valuable member of the team in pyramids and baskets.
  • Ladies interested in Co Ed should partner stunt as much as possible. Co Ed stunting is different from All Girl stunting. You should practice with a variety of partners will a range of abilities. You will stunt with all males in the Selection Process and you will find that they have many different abilities and strengths. Stunting with only partner will not allow you to polish your own technique. You should begin with the basic of learning to balance and then gradually work up to more difficult stunts. We begin with a toss chair, Purdue, walk up hands, toss hands, toss hands extension, liberty, and heel stretch full down. You may have more elite stunts but again it is important to have the basics down with a number of partners.
  • Ladies interested in All Girl will try out for stunt positions. You are welcome to tryout for more than one position. You should be familiar with main base, side base, back spot, and flier. You may want to become familiar with UCA technique.
  • Bring your "A" game to every part of the Selection Process because you will be evaluated throughout the entire process.
  • Your ability to get along with others and your attitude will be evaluated throughout the process. We are looking for Spirit Squad members that will make the best team member and represent Baylor University.
