- Baylor's women's distance medley relay team met provisional qualifications to lead the way on the first day of competition at the Big 12/SEC/Pac-10 Challenge in College Station, Texas.
After the first day of action, the Pac-10 leads both the men's and women's standings, while the Big 12 is second in both and the SEC is third.
The women's DMR team combined to take third place in the event, finishing with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 11:18.03. Sophomore Cate Westenhover led off on the 1,200-meter leg, handing off to 400-meter runner Diamond Richardson. Stephanie Morgan ran the 800-meter leg, and Erin Bedell finished with the 1,600-meter leg.
The Baylor men took fourth place in the DMR with a time of 9:49.69. Freshman Gavyn Nero and Drew Seale led off, while junior James Gilreath and senior Ben Haby finished the last two legs.
In the 5,000 meters, Jeff Sadler placed fourth for the men with a time of 14:54.75, while Samantha Patty and Katie Barry placed seventh and eighth, respectively for the women. Patty finished in 17:23.60 and Barry crossed the line in 17:32.94.
Baylor will be back in action tomorrow with a full slate of events. The meet will start at 11 a.m. with the completion of the heptathlon. Running events begin with prelims at 12:30 p.m. and finals starting at 2 p.m.
