NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Baylor track and field junior Erin Atkinson collected her third win of the season in the weight throw event with a heave of 67-3.25 on Friday at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame.
"Erin had a great series," head coach Todd Harbour said. "Overall, I think it might have been her best series of the year. She came close to pulling off a big one. Now we are just hoping that she holds her spot."
Atkinson, who had three throws during the six-throw event that eclipsed the 66-8 distance, currently sits in 15th on the NCAA automatic qualifying list with a toss of 67-8.25. The junior achieved that throw in winning the Husker Invitational on Feb. 2. She also won the Texas A&M 12-Team Invitational to open the season.
Atkinson was the lone competitor for the Bears on day one of the meet, which is designed to give athletes one more opportunity to record an NCAA automatic qualifying mark.
On Saturday, Baylor will have three individuals and both of its 4x400-meter relay team in action. Joe Barb (400m), Brianna Richardson (triple jump) and Olicia Williams (800m) will all represent BU on day two.
Richardson will be the first competitor of the day as the triple jump competition opens Saturday's action at 11 a.m.
