AUSTIN, Texas - Junior hurdler Christina Holland and the men's 4x800-meter relay crew led Baylor's track and field team on a short first day of action at the 85th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Holland, who entered the meet with a season-best 400-hurdles time of 59.58, dropped nearly two seconds on Thursday in the event with a career-best time of 57.74 to qualify third overall for Saturday's final. Holland's time moved her from 14th in the NCAA rankings to the top three in the nation.
Meanwhile, the men's 4x800-meter relay team of Drew Seale, James Gilreath, Gavyn Nero and Patrick Schoenball turned in an impressive time of 7:22.99 to finish second overall. The time ranks as the ninth-fastest in Baylor history.
In the men's 400 hurdles, sophomore Gabriel El Hanblilowered his season-best to 52.00 to earn the ninth-and-final qualifying spot for Saturday's final.
In the field events, sophomore Erin Atkinson finished fifth in the hammer throw with a toss of 196-11.
Baylor will continue action on Friday morning at the Texas Relays with the 4x100-meter relays starting the day at 9:30 a.m.
