AUSTIN, Texas - The 76th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays concluded today at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus with the finals of the sprint events. Overall during the four-day event Bears recorded 13 regional qualifying marks, one NCAA provisional mark and six top-5 finishes.
Danielle Myricks started the Bears off on the final day of competition, taking seventh in the 400 hurdles with a time of 59.04. In the men's race, Seth Billy got out to an early lead, but fell after clearing the second-to-last hurdle. He continued the race finishing ninth with a time of 55.00.
In the women's 4x100 relay, Lindsey Ramey, April Holliness, Elizabeth Wilson and Lakadron Ivery recorded another regional-qualifying mark, finishing seventh with their best time of the season, a 45.23. Wilson and Ivery also ran on the 4x400 relay, teaming up with Jasmine Opusunju and Myricks to finish ninth with a time of 3:41.05. Ivery qualified as an individual for the 100-meter dash finals. With a regional-qualifying mark of 11:51, she finished ninth.
In the final race of the day, the men's 4x400 relay was in good position at the second handoff, but dropped the baton. Billy ran the opening leg and a blazing 400 by Darold Williamson allowed the Bears to have one of the first hand-off's, but as Brian McDonald cut in toward the inside lane, he got tangled up with another runner and the baton hit the track causing Baylor to pull out of the race.
"We were right where we wanted to be, but it didn't happen," head coach Clyde Hart said. "It's early in the season and overall we had a good meet. Several individual athletes had season-best times."
The Bears travel to Arizona State next Saturday (Apr. 12) for the Sun Devil Invitational.
