DENTON, Texas - The Baylor track and field team won nine events, six on the women's side and three on the men's, at the Brooks/North Texas Spring Classic Saturday at Fouts Field.

The Bears claimed the top three spots in the women's 1,500 meters with sophomore Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas) leading the way with a time of 4:44.46. Junior Monique Ortega (El Paso, Texas) took second in 4:48.92, while sophomore Jessi Barnes (Bentonville, Ark.) finished third in 4:49.35.

Freshman Erin Bedell (Plano, Texas) took first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.48, while junior Ruth Waller (Manchester, England) finished fifth in 2:15.48 and freshman Charity Williams (Corpus Christi, Texas) finished sixth in 2:16.94.

Senior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) won the 200 meters with a regional qualifying time of 23.18, while senior Marquisha Sefas (Ft. Worth, Texas) also ran a regional qualifying time of 23.65 to finish third. Sefas also finished second in the 100 meters with a regional qualifying time of 11.59.

Senior Shanta Bibbs (San Antonio, Texas) won title in her first-ever 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.44, while junior Lauren Tillman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished fourth in 1:01.95.

Junior Kandace Tucker (Irving, Texas) took fourth in the 400 meters with a regional qualifying time of 54.25, while senior Janelle Mulkey (San Antonio, Texas) took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.46. The women's 4x400-meter relay of sophomore Carla Grace (San Antonio, Texas), Perkins, Tucker and freshman Katrina Taylor (Baton Rouge, La.) won with a time of 3:47.26.

 

 

Freshman Stasia Kelly-Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.) won the triple jump with a mark of 11.95 meters (39-2 ½), while sophomore Brittany Devereaux (Denton, Texas) finished second in the discus with a toss of 47.96 meters (157-4). Freshman Ashley Korol (Wheaton, Ill.) finished fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50 meters (11-5 3/4), while sophomore Kayla Smith (Arlington, Texas) finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.55 meters (5-1).

Junior Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.) led the Bears to a 1-2-3 finish in the 400 meters, winning with a time of 46.99, while senior Wil Fitts (DeSoto, Texas) took second in 47.30, freshman Quentin Iglehart-Summers (San Antonio, Texas) took third in 47.66 and junior Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas) finished sixth in 48.39. Junior Mitch Sanders (Katy, Texas) finished third in the 800 meters in 1:55.37, followed closely by senior Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) in fourth at 1:55.44. Sophomore Rey Hinojosa (Cedar Park, Texas) took fifth in 1:56.62.

Senior Rob Morrow (Grapevine, Texas) won the 1,500 meters in 4:01.68, followed by junior Cody Wells (Crawford, Texas) in second at 4:03.36. Sophomore Jacob Jones (Willis, Texas) finished fifth in 4:09.43.

Senior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) won the 110-meter hurdles in 13.82, while sophomore Jeremy Jackson (Round Rock, Texas) finished second in 14.42. Junior Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas) finished second in his first-ever 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.90.

The men's 4x100-meter relay of Witherspoon, freshman Queito Teasley (Katy, Texas), Miller and freshman Jacob Norman (Temple, Texas) finished third in 40.46. The 4x400-meter relay of Witherspoon, Iglehart-Summers, Mutai and Fitts also came in third in 3:10.69.

Sophomore Josh Camp (San Marcos, Texas) finished eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.61 (44-8), while senior Austin Heape (Dallas, Texas) finished third in the shot put with a mark of 15.24 (50-0).

The Bears return to action when they host the Michael Johnson Classic Saturday, April 22 at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex in Waco.
