- Baylor's track and field team qualified five more entries for nationals on the final day of action at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Austin, Texas.

Junior Everett Walker led the way with two more berths, one individual and one relay, for Baylor on the final day at the preliminary-round competition. With five more NCAA berths, BU qualified a total of 11 entries for the NCAA Championships on June 6-9 in Des Moines, Iowa.

"I am proud of the way we competed this weekend through the heat and the wind," head coach Todd Harbour said. "Today, three of our four relays got through, along with Jessica (Ubanyionwu) in the triple jump and Everett (Walker) in the 200. It was a good day, this is a really tough meet. The level of competition here is outstanding and you really have to compete to advance. I'm happy with the what we got done this weekend, and now it's on to NCAAs at Drake. Some of our greatest memories are at Drake at the Relays and nationals, so we're excited to go back there."

In the men's 4x100-meter relay, Walker got the team of Whitney Prevost, Woodrow Randall and Blake Heriot off to a good start. The final three kept up the pace, putting Baylor third in the heat to qualify automatically for nationals at 39.49.

In the 200 meters, Walker came off the curve and accelerated from fourth into second place in his heat to earn an automatic qualifying spot with a time of 20.54. His time was the fifth-best overall on the day and leaves him qualified for nationals in three events overall, two individual and one relay.

In the field events, senior Jessica Ubanyionwu earned her third straight berth to nationals in the triple jump. She finished the day with a best of 43 feet, 0.5 inches.

Baylor's 4x400-meter relay team on the men's side earned a second-place finish in their heat to qualify automatically with a time of 3:07.17. The team of Justin Allen, Blake Heriot, Drew Seale and Zwede Hewitt ran away from third place to secure the bid.

Baylor had a few near-misses again on Saturday, including senior Whitney Prevost in the 200 meters and sophomore Erin Atkinson in the hammer. Prevost finished just two spots outside of qualifying in 14th with a time of 20.86. In the women's hammer, Atkinson was seven feet away from qualifying with her best toss on the day of 196-7.

Baylor's 11 qualified entries will continue their season at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, at Drake Stadium on June 6-9.
