WACO, Texas - Baylor's track and field team will begin the 2014 indoor season by taking part in the Texas A&M 10-Team Invitational on Friday and Saturday in College Station, Texas.

"You are always very, very excited for the first meet," ninth-year head coach Todd Harbour said. "We are excited to see how the work our athletes have done translates into results. We have a large group going, so we hope to have a lot of great performances."

Along with the Baylor men and women, Texas A&M will host the men's and women's teams from Abilene Christian, Louisiana Tech, Rice, TCU, Texas State, UT Arlington and UT San Antonio, along with SMU's women's squad.

The meet is scheduled to begin with the running of the distance medley relay and the 5,000-meter event on Friday afternoon at 4:40 p.m. Saturday's action begins with field events at noon and running finals at 2 p.m. at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M University.

In total, Baylor has 64 athletes slated to compete with 35 women and 29 men getting their first action of the season.

On the men's side, the Bears enter the season ranked 18th in the country with a group of three indoor All-Americans and eight All-Big 12 indoor performers returning. Senior Blake Heriot, last season's Big 12 champion in the 200 meters, will be counted on in three events (200, 4x400, DMR) this weekend. Sophomore Felix Obi will look to build on his All-American freshman season by taking part in the long jump, while sophomore Richard Gary is schedule to run in two events (400, 4x400). In 2013, the BU men finished in fourth place at the Big 12 Championships and earned six points to finish 32nd overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

Baylor's women are currently ranked just outside the top 25 at No. 26. The Lady Bears return only one indoor All-American performer, but have 10 indoor All-Big 12 athletes back. Tiffani McReynolds returns after an injury in the outdoor season as the country's best 60-meter hurdler. She is scheduled to compete in only the 60-meter dash this weekend. Last season, the women finished tied for 25th at the NCAA Indoor Championships and fourth at the Big 12 Championships.

Heralded freshman Trayvon Bromell (60, 200) and TJ Holmes (4x400) on the men's side and Cion Hicks (shot put) and Annie Rhodes (pole vault) on the women's side will get their first chance at collegiate action on Saturday.

Two key members of the men's team, Drew Seale and Everett Walker, have exhausted their indoor eligibility and will have to wait until the outdoor season to return to competition.

Last season, Baylor placed second on both the men's and women's side at the Texas A&M Invitational. Individually, BU won a total of five events, including four from the women's team. The Lady Bears got victories from McReynolds (60 hurdles), Erin Atkinson (weight throw), Skylar White (shot put) and the distance medley relay team. The men's lone win came from Obi in the triple jump.
