WACO, Texas - Baylor's track and field team travels to Fayetteville, Ark., for the two-day Razorback Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23, at the Tyson Events Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
The Bears opened up the 2010 season last weekend at the Texas A&M Invitational, getting school record performances from senior Chris Gowell in the men's 1,000 meters (2:22.38) and freshman Skylar White in the women's shot put (46-8). Gowell claimed his second school-record in his career, also holding the indoor 800-meter record. White broke her own shot put record that she set in a preseason meet in December.
Baylor had two provisional qualifying marks at the Texas A&M Invitational with Tiffany Townsend achieving the standard in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.36 on her way to victory in the event. The men's 4x400-meter relay also took the event and met provisional standards with a time of 3:08.50. Gowell is also provisionally qualified in the 800 meters with a time of 1:48.87, a mark he achieved in the Bears' lone December meet.
The Razorback Invitational field will feature some of the top ranked teams in the nation. On the men's side, No. 11 Baylor will battle No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 19 Georgia, and No. 21 Oklahoma State. For the women, No. 16 Baylor will take on No. 17 Arkansas and No. 21 Oklahoma.
The meet is scheduled to begin Friday with the pentathlon events starting at 11 a.m. The field events will begin at 4 p.m. and the running events will get rolling at 6 p.m.
