Baylor heads into the 2004 Big 12 Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Track in Lincoln, Neb.
The men's team is tied for sixth in the latest Trackwire 25 rankings, while the women are tied for 15th. Neither Baylor team has finished higher than third at the indoor meet, with each securing that place at the 1999 championships.
The men's 4x400 relay team enters the meet with a streak of six straight indoor titles on the line.
Who to Watch
* Junior Darold Williamson and sophomore Jeremy Wariner will battle each other for the 400-meter crown. Williamson is ranked third in the country, while Wariner is ranked fourth...The duo will then lead the top-ranked 4x400 relay squad as they attempt to capture their seventh consecutive indoor conference crown.
* Senior Jordan Willmann is ranked No. 3 in the country in the pentathlon, the highest ranking pentathlete in the Big 12. She will be challenged by Nebraska's Ashley Selig, who is ranked fifth and Kansas State's JaNelle Wright, who is ranked eighth.
* Junior April Holliness is ranked sixth in the country, but will have to go through top-ranked Ineta Radevica of Nebraska for the conference title.
* Junior Lakadron Ivery is ranked sixth in the country in the 60 meters, right behind LaVerne Jones of Oklahoma.
Indoor Conference History
The men and women have each finished in the Top 5 in six of the seven years at the Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships...The women's highest finish was 3rd in 1999...The men's highest finish was also third in 1999, and the men have never finished outside the Top 6...Going even further back to the Southwest Conference days, the women never won a conference title, but finished second twice (1993, 1994)...The men, on the other hand, won two championships (1976, 1995) and finished second 11 times.
The action kicks off with the combined events at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, which run until 3:40 p.m. The field events begin at 2:45 p.m., with the last beginning at 6:00 p.m. The running events begin at 2:00 p.m., with the final event beginning at 9:00 p.m.
On Saturday, the combined events begin at 9:30 a.m. and finish up at 1:45 p.m. The field events begin at 1:30 p.m., with the last event starting at 4:45 p.m. The running events begin at 3:00 p.m., and the championships conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 6:45 p.m.
