AUSTIN, Texas -
The 76th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays got underway today at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus. The decathlon and heptathlon started today along with the running of the 10,000-meter races for both the men and women.
Junior Jordan Willmann got a tremendous start in the heptathlon. Despite strong winds, she began the day with a time of 14.55 in the 100 hurdles. She proceeded to match her season best in the high jump, clearing 5-8, which is a regional qualifying mark. Willmann recorded a throw of 35-6 ½ in the shot put before closing the day with season-best time of 25.83 in the 200. With the long jump, javelin and 800 remaining, she stands second with a total score of 3,189 points, slightly ahead of Mississippi State's Lauren Johns, who has recorded 3,161 points. Tamara McGil of Pittsburgh is in the lead with 3,398 points.
The 10,000 also was contested today. On the women's side, sophomore Anna Kaczmarek clocked a 38:03.80 to finish seventh in her first 10,000 race of the year. For the men, sophomore Sam Bernal also recorded a top-10 finish in the event, taking eighth with a time of 32:42.17.
The remainder of the heptathlon will be contested on Thursday and running and field events will continue through Saturday.
