WACO, Texas - In conjunction with the 17th-annual Michael Johnson Classic on Saturday, April 19, the Baylor track and field program is inviting past athletes back for a "Last Lap" ceremony to commemorate the final collegiate track meet at Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex.
Along with the annual alumni fish fry, former track and field letterwinners and their families will be asked to come out on the track to run or walk around the famed venue one final time before the evening running session begins at 5 p.m.
During the "Last Lap" ceremony, highlights from each of the six decades that the facility has been home to the Baylor track and field program will be read aloud. T-shirts to commemorate the day will be given out to all the participants of the ceremony.
The meet gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with field events, while the afternoon session of running events begins at noon.
Next season, Baylor will move into Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium, an on-campus, $18.1-million facility. The new facility - designed by Kansas City-based Populous, which also planned McLane Stadium - will accommodate 5,000 spectators and participants. Located adjacent to the new football stadium, the track and field facility is slated for completion in time for the 2014-15 season.
