May 3, 2014

WACO, Texas - A trio of Baylor women's track student-athletes, Rachel Johnson, Mariah Kelly and Maggie Montoya, will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to take part in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on Sunday.

Johnson will run at 10:04 p.m. CT in section two of the 5,000 meters. It will be the junior's first 5K race of the season. However, she is third nationally in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a school-record time of 9:49.31. Johnson's personal-best time is 16:33.62 in the 5,000-meters, which she set at the Drake Relays in 2012. She didn't run any 5,000-meter events in 2013.

Kelly and Montoya will run in section four of the 1,500 meters at 6:29 p.m. CT. Both athletes have already competed in the event at this track in 2014. Kelly ran a 4:23.20 placing seventh and Montoya took eighth in 4:23.65 at the Stanford Invitational on April 4.

Meanwhile, the rest of the Baylor team is in action at the Longhorn Invitational on Saturday in Austin.

After this weekend's meets, Baylor will take a weekend off, before heading to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Championships, May 16-18.
