DES MOINES – Junior Skylar White represented the Baylor track and field team on Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
White, competing in the shot put, improved on each of her final two throws, but fell short of cracking the top nine to earn final-round throws. She opened with a throw 51 feet, 6.5 inches, and then improved to 52-10.25 on the next one. But, needing to top a throw of 54-8 to make the finals, White came up with a toss of 53-1 and finished 17th overall.
“I’m very proud of the season Skylar has had, earning All-America honors indoors in the shot put and outdoors in the discus,” head coach Todd Harbour said. “It was a really high-level competition in the shot put today and Skylar didn’t have her best, but that definitely doesn’t take away from anything she’s done this season.”
Baylor will have two entries on the final day of action on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Drake Stadium. Senior Jessica Ubanyionwu will wrap up the women’s competition for Baylor in the triple jump at 10 a.m., while the men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Everett Walker, Whitney Prevost, Woodrow Randall and Blake Heriot will hit the track at 11:03 a.m.
