Richards clocked a time of 49.89 to win the final heat by nearly a full second. The time is her season-best and ranks as the third-fastest time in the world.
Wariner finish second in 44.20 as LaShawn Merritt won the finals at 44.00. Reggie Witherspoon finished fourth overall at 45.01 and Darold Williamson clocked 45.58 to finish sixth. Both runners will be eligible for selection into the 4x400-meter relay pool.
In the quarterfinals of the women's 1,500 meters Lauren Hagans finished fourth in her heat to automatically qualify for the semifinals in 4:17.94.
In the men's 1,500 meters, Kyle King recorded a time of 3:45.63 to finish ninth in his heat. He fails to make the semifinals in the 1,500 meters after finishing 11th in the finals of the 5,000 meters on Monday night.
