Head Coach Tood Harbour
Aug. 20, 2012
Todd Harbour announced his squad's 2013 schedule on Monday, which includes hosting the annual Michael Johnson Classic and the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
"This is a very good schedule for us," Harbour said. "We are excited for the opportunity to compete at a high level again and hope this schedule will point us all the way to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore."
The 2013 slate features eight indoor competitions and nine outdoor meets.
BU will open the indoor season with a trip to the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas, on Jan. 12. That meet is followed with an open date on Jan. 19, before the Bears travel to Fayetteville, Ark., and the Razorback Invitational for the first of three indoor competitions hosted by Arkansas. The other two meets in Fayetteville are the Tyson Invitational on Feb. 9 and the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 8-9.
In between, the Razorback and Tyson Invitationals, BU will send athletes to both the Nebraska Invitational and the Notre Dame Invitational on Feb. 2.
The indoor conference season will conclude with the Big 12 Championships on Feb. 22-23 in Ames, Iowa. The Bears will then attend a last chance qualifier to be determined, before competing at the NCAA event.
"In the indoor season, we are just trying to get some opportunities to go against good competition," Harbour said. "We feel like we are going to some great facilities, in which we have a chance to get some qualifying marks."
Baylor's outdoor schedule begins with six consecutive weekends of competition starting on March 15 with the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. On March 22, BU will host the first of three meets in the outdoor season as the Bears welcome North Texas, Stephen F. Austin and TCU for an invitational quad meet at the Hart-Patterson Track Complex.
A trip to Gainesville, Fla. on April 5-6 for the Florida Relays will be sandwiched in between two trips to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Relays on March 27-30 and the Texas Invitational on April 13. The Bears will wrap up the six-meet stretch back at home when they host the Michael Johnson Classic.
"In the outdoor season, we are going to Florida this year," Harbour said. "That will be a new and challenging experience for us. The thing that we are most excited about is that we get to conclude our conference season by hosting the Big 12 Championships."
For only the second time since 1990, Baylor will miss the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa by taking an open weekend on April 27 to prepare to host the conference's championships, May 3-5.
The 2013 slate wraps up with NCAA competition beginning with the NCAA West Preliminary Round, May 24-26, in Austin, Texas. The NCAA Championships will be held June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore.
