WACO, Texas - Baylor head track and field coach Todd Harbour announced the team's 2014 schedule on Thursday, which features six indoor meets and a total of 11 outdoor competitions.
"Overall, we feel like we have put together a very good schedule," Harbour said. "It gives our athletes the chance to compete against top-ranked competition."
BU will open the indoor season on the road at the Texas A&M Team Invitational in College Station, Texas, on Jan. 17-18. That meet is followed by a trip to Lexington, Ky., for the Rod McCravy Invite on Jan. 24-25.
The Bears be off the first weekend in February, before heading back to College Station for the Texas A&M Aggie Invitational on Feb. 8. The following weekend, Baylor will travel north to Fayetteville, Ark., for the Tyson Invitational, Feb. 14-15, in the final meet before postseason action.
The Big 12 Indoor Championships will be held on Feb. 28-March 1 in Ames, Iowa. Postseason action will continue for qualified athletes at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., March 14-15.
"With the indoor last chance meets going away, it puts more of an emphasis on getting people qualified earlier in the season," Harbour said.
Baylor's outdoor schedule begins with seven consecutive weekends of competition starting on March 20 with the TCU Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas. On March 26-29,
Baylor will head to Austin for the first of three meets in the state's capital as the Bears participate in the Texas Relays. That same weekend on March 27 and 28, select student-athletes will be in San Marcos, Texas, to compete at the Bobcat Invitational.
BU will make its first trip outside Texas during the outdoor season by going to the Florida Relays on April 4-5 in Gainesville, Fla. The Bears will be back in Texas for the one-day Texas Invitational will be on April 12.
Baylor's lone home meet of 2014 will be the Michael Johnson Classic on April 19.
BU returns to the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, April 24-26. Last year, BU did not take part in that meet for only the second time since 1990.
"We are going back to the Florida Relays and the Drake Relays this year, which is exciting and I know our athletes are really forward to those two meets on the outdoor schedule," Harbour said.
Baylor's final outdoor regular-season meet will be on May 3 with the Longhorn Invitational in Austin. The Bears will have a week off, before heading to Lubbock, Texas, for the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, May 16-18.
The 2013 slate wraps up with NCAA competition beginning with the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, May 29-31, in Fayetteville, Ark. The NCAA Championships will be held June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
