2009 Track & Field Schedule
WACO, Texas -
The Baylor men's and women's track and field teams will host the annual Dr Pepper Invitational and Michael Johnson Classic as head coach Todd Harbour announced the complete 2009 schedule on Monday.
The Bears will host the Dr Pepper Invitational on March 21 to open the outdoor track season, while the Michael Johnson Classic will be held on April 18.
"We believe that we have a very competitive schedule, and we are excited to be able to host our two outdoor meets again this season," said Harbour. "We look forward to running at Texas A&M's new facility. It is close to Waco, so it will be a nice, short trip for us. Our outdoor schedule will be similar to the past few years with our trips to the Texas Relays and Drake Relays."
Baylor is coming off its best combined showing in program history at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, as the men tied for seventh and the women tied for 15th overall. The Bears and Lady Bears return a school record 15 All-Americans for 2009, including five NCAA champions and 15 Big 12 champions.
The Bears open their indoor season at the Wes Kittley Invitational hosted by Texas Tech before making its only indoor trip to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Arkansas Open. After a trip to the New Balance Invitational in New York, N.Y., the Bears head to College Station, Texas for three straight meets, as Texas A&M will host its home meet, the Big 12 Indoor Championships and the NCAA Indoor Championships at its new indoor facility.
Following the Dr Pepper Invitational, the Bears will send split squads to the LSU Tiger Relays in Baton Rouge, La. and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Baylor will make its annual trips to the Texas Relays and Drake Relays before the Arkansas Twilight during the first weekend in May.
The Big 12 Outdoor Championships will be held in Lubbock, Texas on May 15-17, with the NCAA Midwest Regional in Norman, Okla. on May 28-30. Arkansas will host this year's NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 9-13 at John McDonnell Field.
