WACO, Texas - Three outstanding athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Baylor Bears Track and Field team in 2003.
Two of the signees are distance runners. Brittany Brockman of Langham Creek High School in Houston is one of the newest Baylor Bears. She has recorded a personal best mile time of 4:58.02 as well as running the 3,200 in 10:48.8.
Monique Ortega of Mountwood High School in El Paso also will join the Bears. She is the 2000 5A state cross country champion. She is No. 5 all-time in the state of Texas in the 3200 meters. She has recorded a time of 10:35.99 in the event as well as running a 1600-meter time of 4:59.24.
Also inking with the Bears is Lauren Tillman of Collins Hill High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. She won the 2002 USA Track and Field Junior Olympics with a with a 400-hurdles time of 60.69, which ranked 11th in the nation. She also has run a personal best 400-meter time of 55.86.
All three athletes will become a part of the tradition-rich track and field program at Baylor University. The current Bears will begin a new campaign on Jan. 17-18 at the Houston Indoor Invitational.
