Derek Marr enters his second season as a volunteer assistant coach with the cross country and track and field teams at Baylor.
Marr comes to Baylor after graduating from Grand Valley State (Mich.) University with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. While at GVSU, He competed for four years on the cross country and track and field teams, specializing in the middle distance events. Successful both on and off the track at GVSU, Marr earned all-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honorable mention at 800 meters, academic all-conference, and was named to the Dean's List six times. He was also a member of both the Dynasty Council for team captains and Student Athlete Advisory Council at Grand Valley State.
Marr also gained meet management experience as the official timer at several of Michigan's largest high school track and field meets over the past two years, including the MHSAA State Championships, MITCA State Championships, MHSAA Regional Championships, and various conference championship meets.
A native of Hale, Mich., Marr is currently pursuing a master's degree in sports pedagogy at Baylor, where he is a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Health, Human Performance, and Recreation.
