Female Runners Win at North Texas

Sept. 13, 2003

WACO, Texas - Baylor's cross country teams represented themselves well at the North Texas Invitational Cross Country Meet on Saturday in Denton. Running at UNT's Research Park, Baylor's women took first place while the men's team finished in second.

Freshman Brittany Brockman led the women with a second place finish in the 5K race. Right behind her was sophomore Lisa Cornelius. Angela Marvin, a sophomore, placed sixth and freshman Monique Ortega placed ninth. Seniors Erin Dixon and Megan McCoin finished 12th and 13th respectively and freshman Brittany Baker completed Baylor's scoring at 17th. No times were listed on the result sheets but the women tallied 32 points to outdistance second place TCU and SMU's 71 points.

North Texas - 92

The men's team placed second with 35 points behind Oklahoma who tallied 27 points. Baylor men took three of the top five places with sophomore Bo Price finishing second over the 8K race with a time of 25:00.00. Senior Matt Chance was fourth (25:05.00) and sophomore Rob Morrow finished the course in 25:20.0 for fifth place. Mitch Sanders, a freshman, sophomore Jason Baker and another sophomore Cody Wells finished in 11th, 13th and 15th place, Completing Baylor's scoring was junior Chris Boley's 27th place finish.

Baylor's next competition will be on Saturday, Sept. 27 when they travel to Minneapolis, Minn., to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational.
