IOWA CITY, Iowa - With three runners in the top seven, including the meet winner Rachel Johnson, the Baylor women's cross country placed third at the Iowa Black & Gold Invite on Friday at the Ashton Cross Country Course.
Individually, junior Rachel Johnson (13:56.28) was first, while freshman Maggie Montoya (14:10.69) took fourth and sophomore Erin Hegarty (14:23.41) was seventh. BU's other two scoring runners, freshman Peyton Thomas (14:39.25) and Bree Schrader (14:44.91), were 17th and 22nd, respectively. That five runner total gave BU 51 points, which was seven behind second-place Iowa State and 16 behind meet winner Alabama.
Johnson captured her second straight first-place finish, after winning last month's Bear Twilight Invitational in a time of 13:33.2.
Baylor had a total of nine girls competing in the event.
There were four women's teams (Baylor, Iowa, Iowa State and Alabama) at the meet.
Three Baylor runners (Alex Davis, Sofia Pitouli and Madie Zimmerman) that finished in BU's top eight at the Bear Twilight Invitational did not compete for the Lady Bears in Iowa.

TWEET OF THE MEET
"It was a great day from our top three. We had a little drop off after that, but it is nothing we can't fix. We had a few that had bumps and bruises and didn't run, but overall the girls ran well. We will be ready to roll in three weeks." - Baylor Head Coach Todd Harbour
A second set of Baylor women's cross country runners will compete at the UTA Season Opener on Saturday at 8 a.m. in Arlington, Texas.
