ARLINGTON, Texas - Following a third-place showing by the Baylor women's cross country team's top runners in Iowa on Friday, a second set of BU student-athletes produced a third-place finish at the UTA Season Opener on Saturday morning at Lynn Creek Park.
Individually, freshman Lindsey Smith carded the best time for BU, running the 5K-course in 18:56.1 to finish 11th overall. Sophomore Angela Tharpe (19:28.3) and Kristina Brown (19:28.5) were the next Lady Bears to cross the finish line taking 16th and 17th place, respectively. Baylor's final two scoring runners were junior Jenna Henrich (19:32.6) and freshman Lexi Reamer (19:33.6) in 19th and 20th-place respectively. That five runner total gave BU 83 points, which was third to UTA's team score of 39 and SMU's of 25.
Smith posted her first scoring performance for BU after finishing 38th at the Bear Twilight Invitational last month.
Baylor had a total of 13 girls competing in the event.
There were six women's teams (Baylor, SMU UT Arlington, Arkansas-Little Rock, North Texas and Louisiana-Monroe) with a total of 48 girls at the meet.

TWEET OF THE MEET
"I thought our girls competed hard. I think for most of them it was their first time running a 5K, so that is a big step. For the most part they handled it well. We had a few that may have gotten out a bit fast, but we had some good times and finished well overall." - Baylor track associate coach Michael Ford
Baylor will be off next week, before the men's and women's teams return to action on Sept. 28 at the North Texas Invite.
