WACO, Texas - Running in their first meet of the season, the Baylor men's cross country team won the 2000 Baylor Invitational, run Saturday at the Texas Farm Bureau in Waco.

The Baylor men were led by sophomore Ferenc Beskesi, who placed second with a time of 26:40. That time was nearly a minute behind UT-Arlington's Ciaran Doogan, who took the men's individual title with a time of 25:55.

Bekesi was followed by teammate Alex Adler in third (26:47). Jon Capron finished seventh (27:22) and Matt Chance placed ninth (27:23) to give Baylor four spots in the top ten.

Other Baylor men running were Josh Ward (14th, 27:38), Wick Devenport (22nd, 28:51), Blair Matthews (24th, 29:20), Bill Thomas (29th, 30:00) and Aaron Ward (44th, 34:33).

On the women's side, TCU took home the team championship. A pair of Horned Frogs took the top two individual times, Gladys Keitany placed first with a time of 18:03, while teammate Robin Schacht finished finished 17 seconds later in second place.

The Baylor women placed third overall. Stephanie Bennett paced the Bears with a fourth-place finish and a time of 18:34. Leah Marbach finished in seventh at 18:56.

Three other Bears ran on the women's side: Kim Cook (22nd, 19:55), Meagen Mcloin (31st, 20:15) and Katherine Duncan (36th, 20:22)

The next action for the Baylor cross country teams comes Sept. 30 at the Oklahoma State Invitational in Stillwater, Okla.
