Baylor Cross Country Teams Fare Well at Cowboy Jamboree
Sept. 30, 2000 STILLWATER, Okla. - Baylor's women's cross country team finished fourth and the men's team placed seventh here Saturday at the 63rd running of the Cowboy Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State. Texas Christian finished first in the women's 16-team, 5,000-meter race with 61 team points. TCU was followed by Oklahoma State (89), Texas Tech 104 and Baylor (117). In the men's 8,000-meter run, Abilene Christian finished first in the 20-team field with 40 team points, edging regionally top-ranked Arkansas by 10 points. OSU was third with 73 points, followed by Texas (170), Kansas (202), Missouri Southern (231), and Baylor (268). Stephanie Bennett and Kara Newton led the Bears, tying for ninth with times of 18 minutes, 27 seconds. Leah Marbach finished 18th with a time of 18:45, while Kim Cook's 19:07 time placed 27th. Erin Dixon (19:53, 53rd), Katherine Duncan (20:05, 59th) and Meagan McCoin (20:43, 75th) also ran for the Bears. On the men's side, the Bears were paced by Ferenc Bekesi's 24th-place time of 25:35. Matt Chance turned in a time of 26:12 to finish 51st. Josh Ward (26:24) and Alex Adler (26:26) finished 56th and 57th, respectively. Jon Capron (27:00, 80th), Blair Mathews (27:58, 112th) and Tristan Eager (28:31, 123rd) rounded out the Baylor field.
Baylor will return to action Oct. 14 at the Arkansas Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
