HOUSTON, Texas– Four freshman finished in Baylor’s top five spots to help the team to a fifth-place finish on Friday at the Houston Baptist Puma Invitational in Houston, Texas.
Freshman Courtney Cox led a quartet of Baylor freshmen to take four of the top five spots, along with senior Sam Allen, who was the second Bear across the line. Rice took the team title with 32 total points, while Houston was second with 56 and Baylor scored 120 points.
Cox covered the three-mile course in 18:22 to finish 11th overall, while Allen was six spots back in 17th at 18:50. Freshman Heather Franco was next across the line in 23rd at 19:07, while Ericka Overbeck was 37th and Jenna Rogers was 39th at 20:11 and 20:27, respectively.
Baylor will be split into two meets next weekend, heading to the NCAA Pre-Nationals, as well as the Chile Peper Festival. The Chile Pepper is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 15, in Fayetteville, Ark., while the Pre-National will take place in Terre Haute, Ind., on Saturday, Oct. 16.
