Women's Cross Country Races to 5th at Chile Pepper

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Baylor junior Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas) finished 19th, while freshman Nichole Jones (Spring, Texas) was literally right on her heels in 20th to lead the cross country team to a fifth-place showing Saturday at the Chile Pepper Festival.

For the first time in her career, Bedell was Baylor's top finisher, crossing the line with a time of 21:00.2, while Jones came in a 21:00.3 in the 6,000-meter race.

The Baylor seniors rounded out the rest of the scoring for the Bears as Monique Ortega (El Paso, Texas) finished 32nd with a time of 21:16.2, Brittany McGuire (Humble, Texas) finished 60th in 21:53.8 and Ruth Waller (Manchester, England) finished 62nd in 21:57.9.

Those seniors were followed by a trio of freshmen, as Loren Hodges (Paradise, Texas) took 67th in 22:02.8, Danielle Bradley (West Palm Beach, Fla.) finished 74th in 22:10.6 and Renae VanWhye (Collierville, Tenn.) finished 82nd in 22:17.4.

The Bears scored 179 points, finishing behind host Arkansas (41), Duke (132), Texas Tech (134) and Virginia Tech (168).

The men's team ran at the Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Ind., and finished 31st. Senior Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) returned in his first race since being struck by a car over a month ago and was the Bears' top finisher, taking 76th in 24:43. Senior Rob Morrow (Grapevine, Texas) finished 105th in 24:54, followed by Jacob Jones (Willis, Texas) in 140th in 25:11, Rey Hinojosa (Cedar Park, Texas) in 186th in 25:34 and Ben Haby (Corpus Christi, Texas) in 213th in 26:04. Jordan Hiller (Yoakum, Texas) finished 219th in 26:12.



Both teams will be preparing for the Big 12 Championships Oct. 27 in Lawrence, Kan.
