WACO, Texas– Baylor’s men finished 13th at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., while the women had a 23rd-place finish at the Chile Pepper and a 28th-place finish at the NCAA Pre-National in Terre Haute, Ind., over the weekend.
The NCAA Pre-National, run on the upcoming NCAA Championship course, featured many of the top-ranked teams in the nation. Baylor freshman Erin Hegarty was the top finisher for the BU women, placing 76th overall with a time of 22:14 on the 6,000-meter course. Sophomore Robyn Bennett was second across the line for the Bears in 123rd with a time of 22:54, while senior Kristen Hanselka was next at 142nd (23:07).
The Baylor men had a solid showing at the Chile Pepper, joined by a split squad from the BU women’s team. Senior Zac Flowers helped lead the Bears to the 13th-place finish among 32 teams, coming in 65th with a 10,000-meter time of 31:14.2. Sophomore Brad Miles was just 11 seconds and 11 places back in 76th at 31:25.6.
Sophomores Blake Niccum and Taylor Jackson were the next two across the line for Baylor, followed by freshman Derwin Graham. Niccum was 111th with a time of 32:03.9, while Jackson was 126th at 23:33.4 and Graham was 139th at 32:35.5.
On the women’s side, Lindsay Warner and Samantha Patty led the group at the Chile Pepper with the team’s top two finishes. Warner placed 117th overall with a 6,000-meter time of 22:51.7, while Patty was 128th at 23:05.3. Freshman Courtney Cox was next across the line in 157th with a time of 23:33.4.
Baylor will have the coming weekend off to prepare for the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas, on Oct. 29. The meet will take place at the Pebble Creek Country Club.
