LUBBOCK, Texas - Lauren Hagans finished 10th overall as the Baylor women's cross country team finished fourth at the 2007 Big 12 Championships at the Rawls Golf Course on Friday morning. Robbie Knorr was the top men's finisher as the Bears placed 12th overall.
Colorado won both the men's and women's overall team championships, with the men's team scoring 34 team points, while the Lady Buffs scored 59 team points. Colorado's Brent Vaughan won the men's individual title, while Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech took the women's title for the second consecutive year.
Hagans led the way for the Lady Bears, finishing 10th overall with a time of 21:00.70 over the 6K course. The senior earned her second all-conference honor after finishing 14th overall at the 2005 Big 12 Championships.
Nichole Jones placed 17th overall, just missing all-conference honors. Lyndsy Bedell was third for Baylor, finishing in 21:44.75 placing 21st overall. Danielle Bradley (22:18.90) and Renae Van Wyhe (22:51.45) finished the scoring for Baylor in 46th and 63rd overall, respectively.
"Obviously we wanted to do better than we did," said head coach Todd Harbour. "But in order to do that we had to hit on all cylinders and we weren't able to. We have some girls who have been battling all season and they came out and battled today. Lauren Hagans ran an incredible race. Nichole ran well too; she had her shoe come off at the 2 K mark and had to stop to put it back on. I'm really proud of our team and now we just need to get ready for our next race."
Erin Bedell finished 67th and Katie Shaw took 68th. Freshmen Leigh Ann Ganzar and Kristen McGlynn finished 73rd and 74th, respectively.
Robbie Knorr led the men's team with a 52nd-place finish and a time of 26:26.25 over the 8K course. Ben Haby finished 76th and Jacob Jones took 80th. Jeff Sadler (28:00.60) and Jordan Hiller (28:06.10) finished the scoring for Baylor in 90th and 91st place, respectively.
"Our guys are really young so to get them some big race experience was good," said assistant coach Jon Capron. "We didn't do as well as we would have liked. We needed to make no mistakes in order to be in the mix and we made a couple."
The two teams will return to action on Nov. 10 as the Bears race at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
