Women's Cross Country Finishes 4th at Big 12

Topeka, Kan.-The Baylor women's cross country team finished fourth while the men's cross country team earned a seventh-place finish at the Big 12 Conference Cross Country Championships ran today at the Stateland Cross Country Course.

"Overall, I was extremely pleased in the way both teams ran today," head coach Todd Harbour said. "The women's team overcame a lot of adversity this year to finish fourth and several runners on the men's side gave strong performances."

Brittany Brockman earned her second consecutive all-conference honor on the women's side as she finished the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:55.93 to finish in 13th-place overall.

Bo Price also earned his second all-conference honor for the Baylor men as he finished in eighth-place on the 8,000-meter course in a time of 24:54.72. Price's eighth-place finish also marked the highest individual finish for a Baylor men's runner in Big 12 Conference history.

Monique Ortega and Jessa Chance earned top-25 finishes to help lead Baylor to a fourth place finish on the women's side. Ortega finished in 21st with a time of 22:18.29 as Chance finished the course in a time of 22:28.77 to finish in 24th.

Lyndsy Bedell (34th, 22:48.90) and Lauren Hagans (35th, 22:54.53) rounded out the scoring for Baylor on the women's side.

Cody Wells and Luis Gutierrez were the next Baylor runners to cross the line on the men's side as each earned top-50 finishes. Wells crossed the finish line in a time of 26:03.74 to finish in 45th as Gutierrez finished 49th among scorers with a time of 26:07.59

 

 

Chris Vidrine (51st, 26:11.61) and Mitch Sanders (60th, 26:35.70) rounded out the scoring for the Bears.

Colorado captured the men's and women's team titles at the championship as Kansas' Benson Chesang claimed the men's individual title in a time of 24:07.43 while Colorado's Renee Metivier won the women's title in a time of 20:28.05.

The Baylor men's and women's cross country teams will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when the Bears host the NCAA South Central Regional at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The top two teams on the men's and women's side at the meet will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind.
