LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Baylor women's cross country sophomore Anna West posted the program's ninth All-America honor by finishing in the top 40 at the NCAA Cross Country Championships Saturday morning in Louisville, Ky.
Finishing in 40th with a time of 20:12.5, West is the seventh individual to earn All-America nods and the first since Rachel Johnson in 2014. Her All-America nod caps off a successful sophomore campaign for the Wildwood, Mo., native as she earned her second consecutive All-Big 12 and All-Region honors.
Also posting a top-50 finish at the championship meet was junior Lindsey Bradley who finished 47th with a time of 20:20.0. She caps off her second season with the Bears with her second-straight All-Big 12 and All-Region nods.
Saturday's meet was the first time since 2010 that two Baylor runners individually qualified for the championship. In that season, neither runner finished in the top 100.
"It was an outstanding day for both of them. I was proud of them. In my book, they're both All-Americans. Lindsey (Bradley) got out and ran quite well, but she couldn't quite hold on to it at the end. She faded a little bit at the end down the homestretch and some girls caught her. Anna (West) was about 45th with the last 400 (meters) to go and made up a lot of ground. She got that 40th spot, so she's happy of course. Lindsey is obviously a little disappointed, but they both ran their hearts out, and I'm proud of them." --head coach Todd Harbour
The Bears have concluded the 2017 cross country season. The Bears will be back in action Jan. 12-13, 2018 to open the indoor track & field season at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
