WACO, Texas - Lauren Hagans and Nichole Jones were named to the 2007 NCAA Division I USTFCCCA Women's All-Academic Team, it was announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Feb. 25. Both Hagans and Jones were named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team earlier this season.

"I am very proud of Lauren and Nichole," said head coach Todd Harbour. "These ladies showed this season that they are two of the best runners in the nation and now they have been honored for their achievement in the classroom."

A total of 91 female student-athletes representing 62 Division I institutions were named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team. The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average and have completed a minimum 24 semester hours through the 2007 fall term. Additionally, the student-athlete must finish in the top 15 runners or top ten percent of finishers at their respective NCAA regional meet, or receive All-American honors.

Hagans earned All-Big 12, All-South Central Region and All-America honors this season, leading the Lady Bears to a 17th place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships. The finish was the highest of any Big 12 school, and the fourth-highest finish in program history.

Jones earned All-South Central Region honors, placing second overall at the region meet in Fayetteville, Ark. At the NCAA Championships, Jones finished 43rd overall, and was the 31st American-born finisher, missing All-America honors by one spot.

In addition, the Baylor women's cross country team was named a 2007 USTFCCCA Division I Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team. The Lady Bears' compiled a team GPA of 3.69, the seventh highest total in the country. Baylor had the highest GPA of any school competing at the NCAA Championships, eight spots better than the next highest team (West Virginia, 15th). It is believed that this is the first time in Baylor history across all sports that a team has recorded the highest GPA of any team qualifying for postseason competition.
