WACO, Texas - Baylor cross country head coach Todd Harbour announced the release of his team's 2013 schedule Thursday, which features three home meets, including the Big 12 Championships and the NCAA South Central Region Championships.
Besides the two postseason events, which Baylor will host at the Cottonwood Creek Golf Course, the Bears will open the season at home with the Bear Twilight Invitational on Aug. 30 at the HOT Soccer Complex.
"I am very excited about our schedule this year, especially with the opportunity to host both the Big 12 Championships and the NCAA regional meet," Harbour said. "We are very grateful to Cottonwood Creek Golf Course and the city for allowing us to bring these great events to Waco."
After a week off, a select group of Baylor's women's student-athletes will travel to the Iowa Invite in Iowa City, Iowa, on Sept. 13, while the rest of the women's team will compete at the UTA Season Opener on Sept. 14, in Arlington, Texas. The men's squad will have the weekend off from competition.
The Baylor men will return to action after nearly a month off by joining the women's team to take part in the North Texas Invite on Sept. 28, in Denton, Texas.
A week later, the men and women will split for the only time in 2013 as the women's squad ventures to the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 4, in South Bend, Ind., while the men are set to compete at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct.5.
Following the split weekend, both teams will be back in action after another off week, as the men and women will get to run on the NCAA Championships' course during the Pre-National Invitational on Oct. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
BU will have another open weekend, before welcoming the rest of the league for the Big 12 Conference Championships on Nov. 2. The Bears will be hosting the event for the second time in school history, after Waco last served as the championships' location in 2005.
Baylor will then host the NCAA South Central Region Championships on Nov. 15 for the fifth time in the last six years and the ninth time in the last 11 seasons.
The NCAA Championships take place eight days later on Nov. 23 in Terra Haute, Ind.
