WALNUT, Calif. - Track and field signees Whitney Prevost, Nick Lyons, Marcus Boyd and Brittany Carr won national championships at the 2007 USATF Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships this weekend at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College.

Prevost (Texas City, Texas), who last week was named to the USA Today/Track and Field News All-USA team, took first place in the young men's 100 meters with a time of 10.49. He also placed fourth in the young men's 200 meters with a mark of 21.15.

Lyons (Waitsburg, Wash.) won the young men's javelin in dominating fashion as his top throw outdistanced the competition by nearly nine feet. His throw of 206-02 marked an eight-foot personal-best in the event.

Boyd (Fort Worth, Texas) ran the second leg of the young men's 4x100-meter relay champion. The Hallmark Track Club won with a time of 40.21. Boyd also ran the leadoff leg of the 4x400-meter relay that placed second in the young men's division with a time of 3:07.68.

Carr (Colleyville, Texas) ran the third leg of the young women's 4x100-meter relay champions. Carr, whose Dallas Gold Track Club set the National Youth record last year at 44.56, helped her team to a new National Youth record by clocking 44.43.

Baylor has six track and field signees ranked in the top 10 in the nation during the outdoor season. Tiffany Townsend (Kileen, Texas) holds the top times in the 100 meters and 200 meters. James Gilreath (Bartlett, Tenn.) ranks fourth in the 800 meters and eighth in the 400 meters. Both Townsend and Gilreath, along with Prevost, were named to the USA Today/Track and Field News All-USA team last week. Prevost holds the eighth-best time in the 200 meters. Lyons ranks 10th in the men's javelin throw, while Joe Farley (Aledo, Texas) ranks seventh in the men's pole vault. Kristen McGlynn (Bailey Colo.) ranks in the top 10 in three different events. She places fifth in the women's 3,000 meters, seventh in the women's two mile and ninth in the women's 3,200 meters.

Also, on Monday, head coach Todd Harbour announced the signing of two more student-athletes for the 2007-08 seasons. Hilary Andrews (The Woodlands, Texas) ran track and cross country at The Woodlands High School, claiming the 15-5A district championship in the 1,600 meters. Caitlin Fairly (Amarillo, Texas) was a track and cross country standout at San Jacinto Christian Academy. She earned two state championships this spring, winning the TAPPS 3A titles in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters.

"We are very excited about how well our incoming class has been performing this year," said Harbour. "These are the caliber of athletes that can help take us to the next level at indoor and outdoor nationals. We are also excited to announce the signings of Hilary and Caitlin. They have not been running very long and already have shown great potential. These ladies have a lot of great running ahead of them at Baylor."
