WACO, Texas-The Baylor cross country team opens the 2005 season this weekend when the Bears host the Bear Relays at the Baylor Intramural Fields on Friday, Sept. 2, at 7:00 p.m. The relay-style meet consists of teams of two individuals, participating in a relay-style race, with the women running a 2x4-km race while the men will run in a 2x6-km event.
"We are anxious to see where we are as a team," head coach Todd Harbour said. "It is a friendly competition among colleges in the area and it will be nice break in the training for everyone involved. It has always been a fun event and I think our runners are really looking forward to it."
The Baylor women return six runners from a year ago, including all-Big 12 Conference and NCAA All-South Central region selection Brittany Brockman. In addition, the Bears return all-region selections Lyndsy Bedell and Monique Ortega.
On the men's side, Baylor returns six runners as well, including all-Big 12 Conference selection and NCAA All-South Central Region honoree Bo Price. Rob Morrow also returns for the Baylor men after missing the last half of the 2004 season sue to an injury.
Baylor claimed the men's and women's titles at last year's Bear Relays, with the tandem of Brockman and Ortega claiming the women's individual title while Morrow and Cody Wells claimed the men's individual title.
Other team participating in the 2005 Bear Relays include TCU, SMU, North Texas, Texas-Arlington, Dallas Baptist and Texas A&M-Commerce.
Following the Bear Relays, the Baylor cross country team will return to action on Sat. Sept. 10, when the Bears travel to College Station, Texas, to participate in the Texas A&M Invitational.
