WACO, Texas – Baylor's cross country teams will open the 2017 season by hosting the annual Bear Twilight Invitational at the Heart of Texas Soccer Complex in Waco Friday evening.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. CT with the women's 4,000-meter loop, followed shortly after by the men's 6,000-meter loop. The course, at the HOT Soccer Complex, is located on the northwest side of Lake Waco near the Waco Regional Airport at 6101 Airport Road, Waco, Texas, 76708.
It’s the 15th-straight year the Bears will open the season at home.
Baylor's teams, ranked fourth in the region on the women's side and fifth on the men's, will host men's and women's squads from Abilene Christian, North Texas, TCU and Texas State as well as the SMU women.
On the women’s side, Baylor returns two all-region performers, junior Lindsey Bradley and sophomore Anna West, to a team that advanced to the NCAA Championships for the 16th time in program history. The women’s team will add five freshmen to the roster this season: Sarah Antrich, Payton Czupil, Brooke Gilmore, Natasha Strump and Madelaine Johnston.
On the men's side, seniors Eric Anderson, Sam Sahli, Matt Parham and Jordan lead a team that looks to improve off a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Regional Championships a season ago. Baylor returns one all-region performer in sophomore Devin Meyrer.
The Bear Twilight is the only home meet of the season for the Bears. Both the men and women will have next weekend off, before taking part in the Ken Garland Invitational on Sept. 16 in Denton, Texas.
